Taunya has been assisting victims in Jessamine County for more than two decades.

Crime Victims Advocate
Taunya Northup – Mendenhall has been advocating on behalf of victims of crime since 1985 when she graduated from Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky with Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology, Social Work and Corrections. She went on to earn post-graduate work in the studies of Gerontology. Taunya developed and has case managed the Jessamine County Crime Victims Advocacy Program since it’s beginning in 1997. In 2018, Taunya was Nationally honored by the National Organization for Victims Assistance (NOVA) as a leader in grassroots efforts in advocacy. She was awarded the prestigious honor from the NCVRW of the Margery Fry Victim Services Practitioners Award.
Jessamine County Crime Victims Advocacy Program
The Jessamine County Crime Victims Advocacy Program, a division of the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office, provides crisis intervention services to victims of violent crimes. Those crimes may be physical assault, sexual abuse, child abuse, elder abuse, domestic violence, stalking, strangulation, dating violence and other violent offenses. Services include: Crisis Intervention and counseling, needs assessments, assistance in filing emergency protection orders, court preparation, case management, referrals to community resources, housing and shelter services, and other supportive services. Taunya and her master’s-level student interns, work with all law enforcement agencies in Jessamine County to provide much needed victim services to all citizens of Jessamine County.
