When are property tax bills issued?

The property tax bills are mailed out last business day of September and are based on the assessed value of the property as of January 1st of the taxing year. 

What if I have not received a tax bill?

If you have not received your tax bill by the second week of October, please contact our office at 859-885-9512 and a duplicate tax bill will sent to you. You may also print a copy of your tax bill from our website. Please note failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you of your obligation to pay taxes on the property nor waive the penalties for a late payment. 

What is the payment schedule?

October 1st- November 1st close of business, 2 % discount

November 2nd – December 31st, face amount

January 1st – January 31st, 5% penalty

February 1st- April 15th 10 % penalty + 10% Add-on

At the close of the business day on April 15th, all unpaid tax bills will be transferred to the Jessamine County Clerk for further collection proceedings. Additional costs, fees, and interest are added after this date and the bills may be subject to sale to a third party.

What happens if a due date falls on a weekend or holiday and the office is closed?

If the due date falls on a weekend or Sheriff’s office Holiday, then the due date will be extended to the next business day when the office opens.

How do I pay my property tax bill?

Enclosed your check or money order payable to “Jessamine County Sheriff” along with your tax bill payment stub which is located at the top of your tax bill. If you cannot enclose a tax bill stub, please print your bill number on your check or money order. You may also print a copy of your tax bill from the website. To verify your payment has been processed please check your bank and our website for payment. It may take up to ten (10) days for payment to show processed. 

Online: 

Payments can be made online.

Credit/Debit cards- Visa, Mastercard and Discover are accepted. A vendor convenience fee applies to online credit/debit card payments. This fee amount is 2.5% of the amount of the transaction. You will have an opportunity to review these fees before proceeding with your payment. 

E-Check provides a transfer of funds from your existing bank account for payment. A $1.50 fee is charged for your method. You are given a confirmation of your payment and all information is electronically secured. 

Please note that convenience fees are charged by the vendor for processing your transaction and the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office receives no portion of the fees that are charged. 

Drop Box 

A drop box is available on the 2nd Street entrance inside the door.  Please include the property tax payment stub at the top of your bill with your payment.

What if my mortgage company is supposed to pay my tax bill?

The property owner is legally responsible for ensuring that the bill is paid. The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office sends the property tax bill to the property owner. It is the property owner’s responsibility to forward their tax bill to their mortgage company. If you are unsure if the mortgage company is responsible for paying the bill, please contact your mortgage company and inquire. 

What are the taxing districts for Jessamine County?

All individual taxing districts and rates are listed on your tax bill. 

What is Homestead or disability exemptions

Homestead Exemption is if the homeowner is 65 years of age or older and resides in the home as of January 1st or if the homeowner is 100% disabled, you may qualify for the exemption. For more detailed information, please see Jessamine County Property Valuation Administrator
